reflections
February 22nd, 2009 Monday 16th – Sunday 22nd February

There’s a few classes on this week but being reading week it’s fairly quiet so I’m able to catch up on some areas of work but it’s been better also since I stopped doing the overtime as now I’m able to keep on top of my own work.

On Monday I went to work  on reception after doing my regular hours, I was nervous but very excited and looking forward to it immensley, I love it so much.  I truly think I found my vocation, I love my hairdressing but think it may be too late for me to return to that. My friend Elaine came to see me in her lunch break, it’s her job we’re all covering. I had a bit of a situation in that what I thought was a foreign student came only to learn he was a refugee looking for an english language course. It was very difficult as his English was so limited and his interpreter wasn’t much better either and there was other students coming for attention also. Trying to explain that the university doesn’t provide free courses was very difficult and quite frustrating, eventually with the help of the school office staff I sorted him out with a contact to email as to where he may be able to get the help he needed.

I did reception again after my regular hours on the Wednesday afternoon, Angie didn’t hang about for long after I arrived, she said I’m better on my own and I am. My friend Elaine came to see me again. which was nice, she’s very proud and supportive of me. The afternoon went well and I was thanked several times on my help and assistance which felt really good.

On Thursday evening the two living me below me were arguing and shouting again so I had to shout down, I can’t bear it anymore and. I eventually went to bed about 1130/12 only to be woken at 130 am by her shouting, so I shouted back to shut up.

On Friday I struggled again to get up for work, I’m finding it really difficult and it doesn’t help when woken in the night. I phoned Claire the housing officer, she said it’s not a problem she can call them in, I was in two minds her having apologised a few weeks ago but don’t feel like I can knock on their door as suggested by a friend. I saw him with another meddling with his van when I got home from work but felt he dodged me and went the other side so losing the opportunity to say anything.

February 21st, 2009 Monday 9th – Sunday 15th February

Had to cover 3 times this week because of staff shortages, Science block on Monday, Mossley b on Wednesday and Barkhill 1st floor on Friday.

On Tuesday afternoon I went to do reception duty after my regular hours, it would be my first afternoon alone, it went fairly well but I had to phone Paula a few times for support as there was some queries I was asked and didn’t know. But I enjoyed it and felt a great sense of achievement and looked forward to my next time.

On Wednesday I went after work to do my old lady friend Winnies hair she was having a cut and blow dry and as usual made my tea for me which saves me having to cook and wash up when I get home.

February 21st, 2009 Monday 2nd – Sunday 9th February

Still loving doing my regular hours, can’t believe the difference how I feel about my job, I’m so much less stressed, I’m  still tired but that’s from my problem.

On Wednesday I had to shout down to the two below fighting again.

Maureen and I hadn’t heard anything about further reception training so I emailed Sue about it, she got back to me we could have gone on the Wednesday as noone had turned up. It was too late on the Thursday when I found her message back to me so I mailed back after clearing it with our supervisor that I’d go on the Friday afternoon, Maureen wasn’t sure at that time about going.

When I went into work on the Friday Maureen confirmed she’d be coming with me to do the reception training, so we went together in her car. The afternoon went ok but I have to say you’re better doing it on your own as you can’t stand back then and also don’t feel like you’re competing against each other.  I’d bought a day rider for the bus so I got Maureen to drop me off at the supermarket on the way home and did some food shopping. It was Maureen and my weekend in so it’d save me going shopping at the weekend.

So my weekend was spent working all be it only 3 hours and sleeping. I went to bed on Saturday and slept from 1-7pm and Sunday I slept from 2-6pm, I needed it but can’t say it makes me feel any better that’s one of  the down sides of my problem and I have to say it gets ne down.

February 8th, 2009 26th January

I’d decided at the weekend that I’d had enough of all the extra work and was coming off the overtime rota during the week and told the team leader when I got in Monday morning I wasn’t doing it anymore. A few said oh you’ll miss the money, I said I’d rather be happy and without all the stress. So finishing work at 1:30pm I was able to go home and get changed before going to see my friend Betty in the city.

On Tuesday I went to do Winnies hair after work, I called into E Austins on the way to have a browse, I needed shoes for work, I didn’t find any but got some ankle boots I could walk to work in and would be nice for casual wear too.  It was great going earlier the difference the hour made was tremendous, even getting a bus home as usually it’s evening when I’m going home,  there’s more running earlier, this alone makes me happier to be finishing work my normal hours.

On Thursday I went to Byrom Street after work for reception training 1-30-6pm, I like it but there’s so much more to learn and take in.

On Friday I went to my friend Jeans for dinner, Ann from work was going too. Rob, Jeans husband came to pick me up about 5:30pm, Ann was already there . We had lasagne, baked potato, salad and garlic bread,  I had hot chocolate pudding and cream with Rob and Jean had trifle, Ann didn’t want desert. I took a bottle of wine, Ann didn’t want any so Jean and I shared it and then Jean opened another one. It was a very nice evening, Ann left about 9pm as she was in work next day, Rob took her home then took me about 10:30pm.

February 8th, 2009 19th January

On Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday I did my hours overtime finishing at 2:30pm. On Wednesday I went to see Sheila after work, it had been a while since I’d been to see her with working late and reception training and I was very tired it hadn’t been possible. Also under the circumstances with the sad loss of her son I didn’t want or feel it right to go at Christmas. The goons below kicked off  at 7:30pm, now I just get angry and shout down.

On Thursday I went to Byrom Street to do some reception training there, it’s busier and there’s more students than Kingsway House, I went 10-1pm but eneded up staying ’til 5pm. I did some food shopping on the way home to save me going at the weekend.

On Friday I worked ’til 2:30pm, I was feeling pretty bad and slept most of the night.

It was Maureens and my weekend for overtime in the library, I slept afterwards each day, on Saturday I went to bed after my bath and slept 11-3pm, Sunday I slept 12-6pm.

February 8th, 2009 12th January

I didn’t have any overime on the Monday but had to cover the area I usually do an hours overtime on, still it was nice going home at 1:30

On Tuesday morning when I came out my front door at 6:30 to go to work there was a man asleep on the landing on the  next door neighbours rubbish!!! It was very unnerving, I found the housing about getting the security door fixed but as yet nothing has been done.

Oh Wednesday my supervisor very kindly signed in before so I had to sign that I was 5 minutes late, I vowed to myself unless unforeseen circumstances he wouldn’t get to do it to me again.

On Thursday I worked on reception at Kingsway House 8-1pm, I was very excited and enjoyed doing it so much.

On Friday I just did my hours overtime, thankfully

My Saturday & Sunday was just spent at home eating, drinking and sleeping, I’m so tired.
