September 14th, 2009 My Birthday, August 22nd 2009

Thursday my friend Elaine called into work to give me my birthday card, I didn’t know she was coming so it was a nice surprise, she said that she was going to the travel agent to book a holiday. I asked why and where are you going, she said she didn’t know she was just going to see what she could get and then started asking me questions on procedures, what you have to do at the airport and such. I said I can’t go at this time why don’t you wait for the new holidays to start and I can go too, but as she was on holiday and she wanted to go somewhere. So I said why don’t we do a weekend, I’m off Friday, so Elaine said for your birthday, I said yes if you like.  So that was it, the plan was in motion. I was doing my old lady friend Winnies hair after work so I had a look in the paper and on line when I got home. We’d decided on Blackpool and Elaine found a company that did packages. We chose a 2 night package, Friday and Saturday with entrance to a show bar. The agent that was doing the booking was great, she said she’d call back when she had a hotel for us and booked a show either the Thursday night or first thing Friday morning.

On Friday morning I was woken by my phone ringing, it was the travel agent, she had a hotel for us but the show we wanted to go see there wasn’t any places left and there had to be a minimum of 5 people. So she made another suggestion for us. I felt like my phone never stopped ringing and beeping with text messages back and forth, but it was exciting. I bathed and washed my hair packed my case and met Elaine in town about 1.15. She was with her dad she’d arranged to meet him as it was his birthday also and she wouldn’t see him, he’d bought 2 bottles of wine for us too. We left her dad and went for the train. When we got to the station our train was ready to leave so the man at the ticket office said to pay on the train but the guard wouldn’t let us so we missed it, grrrrrrrrrrr. It was an hour before the next one so we went and had a drink in the bar, which passed the time nicely.

We shared one of the bottles of wine on the train journey, so we were in good spirits when we arrived. We got a taxi to the hotel, Phil the owner was in the bar when we arrived,  we got chatting to a guy staying there and he bought us a drink then we went to our room to get ready to go out.  We showered and changed then got a taxi to take us the cabaret bar. We got there earlyish so we had seats, it was a male strip show, oh my what an eye opener, they were brilliant on the pole too, the compere was a drag artist with an acid tongue and wicked sense of humour, what a blast we had.

I woke up the next morning bouncing then the headache started and i began to feel ill, we went for breakfast, I had some cereal and toast. We waited about an hour for the cooked breakfast, sausage, bacon, egg, beans & tomato, then went for a sleep afterwards.

I felt better after a sleep and we got ready and went for a walk along the prom, it was a lovely day, hot and sunny, I couldn’t believe how nice it was. It was a lovely afternoon, we had some fish & chips and did some people watching, fascinating all the different fancy dress outfits. We went back to the hotel about 5pm to get ready for the night. We had a few drinks while we were getting ready then went to the wicked cabaret again. We had a good night again and I got another birthday bottle and Tony the compere bought me a drink too, so we were slightly tipsy again ;)

We got up the next morning went for breakfast, then got ready to leave for the journey home. What a brilliant weekend, Big Thumbs Up, I had the best time, fantastic and soooooo glad we went :)
